When you're a bodybuilder, you're used to taking care of every inch of the muscles on your body. But you also have some grooming needs that might be even more important than what they are for the average guy. When you work out, you sweat. And if you don't have every type of equipment that you want at home, you're likely going to the gym a lot. Taking extra care with your hygiene can be rewarding, and if you're a bodybuilder who wants to take his hygiene habits to the next level, try out these tips.
Keep Your Bag Clean
Have you noticed a foul odor coming from your gym bag? It's fairly common, especially if you let your dirty gym clothes stay in the bag for very long. You should know to wash your clothes after every trip to the gym, but you might not do the same with your bag. You can try bringing plastic bags to the gym so that you can put your clothes in them afterward. Dirty, moist clothes are the ideal breeding grounds for fungi, so invest in some gallon-size bags. In a pinch you can also recycle old plastic grocery bags.
Shampoo That Beard
You know to shower after every workout. After all, your hair will smell if you don't. But are you remembering to shampoo your beard? Sweat in your beard can make it feel dry, itchy and just plain irritating. A lot of salt is in our sweat, and this salt mixes with dirt that you pick up from the air when you work out. If you've ever felt your skin after some of the sweat on your body has dried, you know that gritty feeling. That same combination of dirt and sweat has lodged itself into your beard, so don't forget to clean it with some shampoo.
Moisturize
If you're serious about bodybuilding, you're probably in the gym a couple of times per day. You might be showering multiple times per day, which means that your skin will get dried out from all of the contacts with soap and hot water. If you have dry skin, then you might get chafed skin, which can break open. When you have open skin, all sorts of bacteria can get into your system. You definitely shouldn't use the gym pool or hot tub if this happens as it's very easy for bacteria to enter this way. Take the time to apply moisturizer on your skin to keep it healthy.
Use a Metal Water Bottle
If you're concerned about bacteria building up on your water bottle, invest in a metal one, which doesn't accumulate germs as quickly. Also, make sure that you watch your water bottle so that someone else doesn't take a sip when you're not looking.
A lot of bodybuilders have great routines to keep themselves healthy and looking great. But you can always keep a few extra tips in your gym bag to ensure you are the best-looking and best-smelling guy around.
